Blonde By Nature

BUT BEING BLONDE DOES NOT DETERMINE MY NATURE
Let me guess… you’re thinking typical Kelly Bundy blog. Ruby red lips, short black skirts, info goes in = info goes out. If that is what you are thinking, then I ask that you stop thinking like Kelly and think like a “mousy-haired brunette,” or go to Paris Hilton’s blog.

Yes…I’m blonde. Yes…I have blue eyes. But no, I don’t fall into the “blonde” category and I’m definitely no celebrity (thank goodness). To break the mold, I played competitive fastball for 17 years (and no, I’m not a lesbian). My favorite part of the game? Diving into third base with enough speed that I get covered in dirt. The best part? When I see the fruit of my labour by seeing blood from a cut on my uniform. The knowledge that I just got a new scar on my hip from going all-out makes the risk well worth it.

Why? Because that is my nature.

I like the creepiness of spiders, the thrill of a lion locking eyes with me, the touch of a bearded dragon and I find true beauty in watching my dog, a descendant of the wolf, tear apart a chicken carcass.

Why would I like that? Because that IS nature.

Flash Back. Born from a (beautiful) woman who has survived breast cancer, 13 years ago I made a vow that I would give my body, and my loved ones, everything it needs to function to the best of it’s ability.

Flash Forward. May 27th, 2006 was the birth. July 19th was the pickup date. My wolf came to me at 13 pounds with serious stomach issues. An allergy to kibble? That’s unheard of! But it was a fact. Our wolf could not digest the $50/month bag of little balls of fillers. Why not? Well…how would your stomach handle such a food? Wolf ended up very skinny, we kept trying different foods but the same end result – me up all night letting my wolfling out every 2 hours or waking up to him vomiting up small amounts of bile. Poor baby…what am I doing wrong? An eye infection! What the hell he just had an ear infection? Another vet bill, damn. Why is he scratching so much? Destructive littler buggar too. At the age of 6 months, he had eaten 9 pairs of Hanky Panky thongs. 9 x $30=$270 (excluding vet bills). EK! How he managed to find the underwear in my neat and tidy bedroom is beyond me, but push it through his malfunctioning system…I will never know.

Forward to Present. Laying beside my bed curled up in his “cave” is a 95 pound puppy-beast that looks like he gets groomed more than I shower, it seems like his teeth have been brushed after every meal, whose excretions are smaller than my 2 year old cousin’s and less much offensive, and whose joints are in perfect alignment (which is rare for his breed statistically speaking). Destroyed thong count – ZERO – and he’s filled out beautifully taboot.

The point is – how can I not share my secret with the world? My wolf is on the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food Diet. He eats like he was born to eat – just as I was born to be self-destructive for the love of the game. Dogs are meant to eat raw food and the proof is in their modern existence for they have thrived thousands of years doing just that. Why? It just is - it’s Nature.

Look around yourself. There are extinctions of entire animal populations and diseases caused by substitutes for the natural. Ok, I get it…

You can’t fight Nature so instead

See it. Embrace it. Love it.

Just Us.

    I’m a cat person, now. Our family dog an american cocker, lived 16 years with no ailments. I always fed him the same thing and definately no people food. My cats range in age from 18 to 11 , I must be doing something right. I enjoyed my visit to your site. I applaude your devotion to animals, as they bring so much to our lives. Carry on Blondie

    Blogging, defined: you simply thanking me for my one line observation on credibility at Problogger led to me immediately thinking, ‘Well, I’d better check out her blog.’ *

    And so I did. I like it.

    * And not, I should emphasise, ‘I’d better check her out…’ ;)
