Animals Can’t Wrap It Up.

Did you know that 3 major human STD’s have come from animals?

Discover Magazine reports that, according to Alonso Aguirre (Vice President for Conservation Medicine at Wildlife Trust):

And as it turns out, STD’s are just as common in the animal kingdom as it is with humans. That’s right my friends, Mother Nature kicked ALL living and breathing things right in the ball sack…literally.

Only recently are scientists discovering how different variations of Chlamydia span across all levels of species – birds, mammals and reptiles for example. For animals, the outcome of having the clap is the same as humans; a damaged reproductive system.

Why is this important? Because in certain species, such as the sexually active koalas in Australia, the clap is spreading so rapidly that it is contributing to their declining population and endangerment. Researchers Peter Timms and Ken Beagley from Queensland University of Technology’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation have been able to turn their human vaccination focus to koalas. The result is promising and the 18 females that have been treated are showing signs of improvement…but it’s going to take 3 more years to finish the entire treatment and confirm its success.

And giddy-the-f*ck-up if it is successful because that will be one heck of scientific accomplishment!

I’m reminded of a line from The Truth About Cats And Dogs, which seems very important right now:

“We can love our pets, we just can’t LOVE our pets.”

    :)

    And welcome back, btw! x
