It seems that, once again, science proves that humans are closely connected to their canine (and feline) companions. Science Daily reports that a published article from the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine recently says the prevalence of obesity in dogs is between 22 and 40 percent. 32.2% of adults aged 20 years or older are obese. Not good. It seems that the exact same reason why North Americans are the same reasons why our animals are fat: poor lifestyle (lack of exercise, high caloric intake), genetics, illnesses and age. I feel sorry for those vets who see the over weight animal illnesses time and time again. In fact, one of my fave blogs called Dolittler recent had a lovely little rant about the issue, so here is the skinny on lean dog discontent according to a vet. I am a pet owner whose canine who is fit and slim but has a breed who is well known for being overweight, so I completely know where she comes from. I often receive the comment, “he’s so slim!” I often wonder if it is their polite way of saying your dog looks too skinny. But the wolf gets as much meat, veggie and fruit as he needs and lots of walks. According to the vet, he’s a perfect 86lbs.
