It lured me in with the name. Piqued my curiosity with the packaging. And when I realized what it was, I wanted it. FRICK! They got me those buggars’. They got me because they are targeting not just the little dogs for once. They are targeting ALL dogs and (to quote my friend), “obsessive dog owners” who want the next best thing for our beloved animals - yes myself included.
Wait, can I just put a question out there for a moment: Why is it that if you show the same amount of concern for your dog or cat, than you do for a child it’s called “obsessive”, but when you show “obsession” for a child it’s called love? If anyone can offer insight into that, I would appreciate it.
Ok, so the line is called Sexy Beast and I would just like to say how clever that name is. Doesn’t matter what breed, gender or personality type of the dog, we all want our canines to smell like cotton candy or Aunti Cheryl’s homemade bran muffins. Oh and get this, I click on “designers” only to discover that the one and only Karim Rashid produced the packaging for the product. If you aren’t familiar with Karim Rashid, just look at the Method eco-friendly products sitting on your counter, your Hoodie bed that little pup Estella curls up into by For The Dogs, Canada Post, the Dirt Devil designer series. Oh yes, he is all around us. Even traditional Ralph Lauran is on the Rashid Wave. So does this REALLY surprize me that he has his hands in dog fragrances? I guess not.
I love the fact that 2 years ago, a Manhattan woman was the one who started this company by asking friends to assist and was often given blank stares when she approached big companies with her idea. Really, her idea was just hilarious to those stuffy suits with the top floor office suites. I really commend her for taking a chance and diving right in. I can only aspire to come up with a genius idea like this that draws the attention of the US’s biggest names in fashion and Karim Rashid.
I have an anti-insect mix I use myself…but I won’t tell because maybe it will be my secret blend to sell to stuffy suits some day! The Sexy Beast scent is described as a “blend of bergamot and vanilla-infused musk combined with natural patchouli, mandarin and nutmeg oils.” Sounds yummy to me!
Santa may just have to be extra kind to the Wolf this year…

1 £2,500 Vivienne Westwood Dog Coat. | Blonde By Nature // Jan 30, 2008 at 1:17 am
[...] These expensive dog coats have been hitting UK runways for the past 5 years. The most recent Pet a Porter Harrods Fashion Show was in November of 2007 and also used it’s prestige to raise money for the Retired Greyhound Trust (which we love to hear). The event showcases beautiful one-of-a-kind-collars or coats by such designers as Juicy Couture, Ben de Lisi, Sexy Beast and Issa. I was thrilled to see Sexy Beast hitting UK! You can read about my discovery of the fragrance line here. [...]
