I’m still unsure how life can get you high by tantalizing you with mountains, a perfect twinkling sun and wind blowing red ball diamond dirt in your face…then, you fall flat on your face with a reality check. I’m still floored about this recent occurrence in my life as I just don’t understand how another human being can drug and try to rape a woman. I mean, come on…what were they thinking?
I’ve recently discovered that it wasn’t a traditional roofie that they used on me, but Ketamine. Ketamine is not just used in human medicine, nor is it just a street drug, but it is used legally and frequently in veterinary practices. Haha. How ironic! Yes, they use this horrible drug on our furry friends. Can you image? Not knowing what’s going to happen and then BAM you hit a wall of…
- hallucinations
- lost sense of time and identity
- distorted perceptions of sight and sound
- feeling out of control
- impaired motor function
- problems breathing
- convulsions
- vomiting
- memory problems
- dream-like feeling
- numbness
- loss of coordination
- aggressive or violent behavior
- slurred speech
What isn’t on this list is the after effects. “Excitement and visual disturbances can recur days or weeks after exposure to ketamine; the problem with “flashbacks” may be greater with ketamine than with other hallucinogens.” This is the part of the drug that sits with you for weeks. It’s the flashbacks that get tweaked by finding strange bruises on your body, or by a certain body gesture of a co-worker or when sitting in traffic. The best way to describe it is by watching the movie Momento. A very big puzzle that takes weeks to put together.
I ask if it is irony because I believe a few blogs back I thought about only the good times that dogs have. But what about the bad times that humans can put them through? How confused they must be when they visit the vet, when they get fixed or when they have an injury. Drug’em and then fix’em up! HARSH.
So now, what do I do with my new found information? I guess I tell people about it. Let them know that it can happen to anyone, anywhere with anybody around.
By the way, did I tell you that it happened at a not busy Keg at 10:30pm on a Saturday night sitting next to my husband with my bartender friend serving me? String that together and you get a very rare occurrence with some very BOLD men. Makes me sick.
